Commitment to Building a Technology-Driven Modern Bangladesh: 'Bangla QR' Code Service Launched in Shahbagh

DHAKA: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has stated that the country is gradually being transformed into a technology-driven modern Bangladesh. Expressing optimism under the far-sighted leadership of the current government, he noted that the nation will soon enter the highest tier of technology-based digital transactions. He emphasized that the modernization of the country's overall transaction system and the transition to a cashless economy are crucial components of this transformation.
​The minister made these remarks while speaking to journalists on Saturday afternoon at an event held at the Batighar and Prothoma Prokashoni bookshops in Aziz Super Market, located in the capital's Shahbagh. The special program, organized with the support of Bangladesh Bank, aimed to expand the scope of the digital transaction system and encourage the general public to utilize the "Bangla QR" code.
​The information minister pointed out that many countries around the world are significantly ahead of Bangladesh in technology-based transactions. He stated that due to the policy indecisiveness or failures of previous governments, it had not been possible to fully connect the state and its citizens with this modern technology. However, the current government has broken that stagnation to open a new horizon in cashless transactions, and this modern journey has officially commenced today through the "Bangla QR" code.
​Recalling his past memories, the minister said, “I have always purchased books from this Aziz Super Market using cash. But today marks a first-time experience in my life where, as an ordinary customer, I bought books without any cash, simply by scanning the 'Bangla QR' code.” He added that until people actually use technology, they do not realize how easy and convenient transactions can become. Therefore, while urging everyone to use the Bangla QR code when buying books or any other commodities, he stressed the need to maximize the use of technology across every sector in the country.
​The minister requested all banks involved in this initiative—including Dutch-Bangla Bank's mobile banking service 'Rocket'—as well as the general public, to avoid cash transactions and embrace technology-based payment methods through the 'Bangla QR' code. Senior officials from Bangladesh Bank and Dutch-Bangla Bank were present at the event.
